You come home after a long day expecting to find some much-needed relaxation, but instead find shoes scattered across the floor, shelves overflowing, and not a single space on your countertops to put anything down. It’s time to clean house, but you have no idea where to start. I Dream of Clean is a wonderful website that provides some great methods to shape your perspective in regards to organizing and cleaning, but if you want some hands-on methods to tackle the clutter, we have got you covered:

1. Have a junk drawer:

Smaller items have a bad habit of piling up and creating a decent amount of clutter. A junk drawer is a great way to keep a lot of the household items that build up over time from accumulating into massive clutter. It is also a great way to not lose smaller items.

2. Clean up after cooking:

One of the easiest ways to prevent a buildup of clutter is to prevent the clutter in your sink. Doing the dishes and cleaning up after you cook is a sure way to keep your kitchen tidy and clutter-free.

3. Everything has a place:

One of the best habits that you can take on is becoming a habitual “putter-away”. It sounds so simple but is something we can all stray from too often. Practice always putting things away and you’ll see how much better your home looks.

4. Laundry:

The longer you put it off, the worse it will continue to get! Get into a habit of doing laundry on a weekly or biweekly basis to prevent the buildup of clothes and laundry. It’s a great way to keep organized and prevent clutter.

The easiest way to make sure you put things away is just to do it, and then keep on doing it until it’s so habitual that you wouldn’t ever think of not doing it. When you see how much better your home looks, you’ll be that much more motivated to keep fighting the good fight.  For more great tips for preventing clutter in your home, check out one of our favorite blogs at Apartment Therapy and be sure to check back on Rent-One for more great tips and advice!
